For many years you have seen or read articles that give you a WordPress vs Joomla comparison. I am sure you are thinking "not another one" as you read this, but those articles have a problem. The reason I say this is because most of them are 100% biased and most lean to WordPress. Usually, this is because they have used WordPress for a long time and have limited if any, experience with Joomla.
WordPress vs Joomla
Is it really fair to compare these two powerhouse content management systems (CMS)? My answer to this is yes and no. Yes, because these are two popular platforms with WordPress leading the pack. No, because they each have their own specialties and markets.
WordPress was originally created as a blogging platform, and it definitely dominated that market. Joomla was created to be more of a full content management system for more robust websites. Both can run blogs, but the latter does have some minor limitations that garnered negative reviews over the years. Generally, the issue with Joomla has been the lack of a commenting system; WordPress has one.
We've seen a ton of blogs comparing both and usually with a title of WordPress vs Joomla. I've read many of them and although there were a few that I considered OK, most were seriously biased. Biased because of the author's lack of experience with Joomla and their lifelong dedication to WordPress. Fair enough I suppose, but if you are writing a comparison, you better make sure you have used both extensively to share with others.
Do We Need Another Comparison?
If you are someone who has seen more than your share of WordPress vs Joomla articles, you may want to rethink what you've read. I say this because I'm about to embark on a series of articles that digs deeper to compare both platforms. I'm also more than qualified for this topic because I have over 13 years of Joomla experience and more than 8 years with WordPress. I've designed and developed more than enough templates and themes for both, respectively over the years.
I've used both, so this is why it's time for someone to give you an honest, unbiased, and thorough WordPress vs Joomla comparison. I will also explain why choosing one over the other really comes down to the type of website you have--or plan to have.
If you have any suggestions on what you would like to have me include in my series of articles, please let me know.
